The MIC-KEY (Medical Innovations Corporation-UK distribution by Vygon UK Ltd) is a low profile replacement gastrostomy button. It is available in a variety of diameters for different stoma sizes and in a variety of lengths. The MIC-KEY G was designed for insertion into existing tract however some centres are now inserting them surgically as the primary tube. The MIC-KEY G is held in place by a silicone balloon, which is inflated using distilled water. Other companies produce similar products e.g. Medicina, Merck, Fresenius.
MIC-KEY G comes with two extension sets. The right angled SECUR-LOK Med Set (pictured) has separate feeding and medication ports. This locks into the feed port of the MIC-KEY G and virtually eliminates the risk of accidental disconnection. This is used for continuous administration of pump assisted feeds and the administration of liquid medication. A bolus feeding set with a large cath tip is also available.
This shows an alternative button device (Copak, Merck) in situ. This is a low profile replacement gastrostomy. It is made from radiopaque silicone. It is held in place by a radiopaque dome. This is designed for insertion into existing stoma. Some centres are inserting these devices laparoscopically/surgically as the initial tube. Other companies e.g. Ross produce similar devices.
The Corflow PEG (percutaneous endoscopically placed gastrostomy tube) by Merk Biomaterials is made from polyurethane. It is held in place by collapsing polyurethrane foam balloon bumper that is positioned loosely against the gastric mucosa. The tube is secured on the outer abdominal wall by a fixation device. There are several fixation devices e.g. the right-angled fixation deviced photographed, a pumber bar etc. The Corlock-Corport is a Y adapter, which firstly locks the air in the retention balloon to prevent accidental removal, and secondly provides a feeding and medicine port. Several other manufacturers produce similar devices e.g. Fresenius, Ross, Medicina.

The Corflow Gastrostomy Tube (Merk Biomaterials) is designed for initial placement in a surgical procedure or as a replacement tube for a PEG tube or similar tube. It can be placed in an existing stoma. Many other companies produce similar tubes e.g. Medicina, Ross, Fresenius.
The tube is positioned in the stomach and the retention balloon inflated with the correct volume of water using a pre-filled syringe. The balloon is positioned against the gastric mucosa. The retention bolster is then slid down the shaft until it is 1-2 mm from the stoma. A Y extension is used for feeding and medication. The volume of water in the balloon should be checked regularly and any losses replaced.
