The Northern Score

home
The Northern score is derived by dividing the lungs into four quadrants and only requires a PA film.
Radiological changes
Score
Mild, minimal increase in linear markings and or nodular cystic lesions up to 0.5 cm in diameter
1
Moderate more pronounced linear markings and or more widespread nodular cystic lesions
2
Severe prominent increase in linear markings, profuse nodular cystic lesions, large areas of collapse consolidation
3
Very severe, little or no areas of normal lung seen, dense infiltration
4
Overall severity for CXR
1-4
Total score (maximum 20)
